Cafe Sketch Final!

4/25_Zoo Session (Trip 3)

Sketch Count: 32

This trip I really wanted to actually sit back and enjoy my time with drawing the animals. Especially with figuring out the shapes of their bodies and how to exaggerate some of them a bit.  I think that worked out well with the rhinos, monkeys, and the polar bears.  I definitely want to explore exaggerating curves versus straights more.

4/18_Zoo Session (Trip 2)

Sketch Count: 54

This trip we spent a lot of time at the petting zoo drawing the goats.  It was great to try and capture the different shapes of the goats since there was a wide variety of breeds. I found the manatees were pretty difficult to get a good gesture of because of their size and shaping. So I definitely want to work more on figuring that out. Also the Bonobos proportions, specifically their arms and legs, are something I want to tackle again because I couldn't get a good read on them.

4/16_Appeal Homework

For this assignment we had to pick 20 of our most appealing sketches thus far! I chose a lot of my caricature work and sports oriented gestures.  I chose these because the caricature work is appealing for me as an artist and the line of action shown in the sports gestures caught my eye amongst all my other gestures.

4/11_Nature Center

Sketch Count: 90

Literally one of the worst experiences I had in terms of a field trip. That aside, it was neat to see the variety of birds they had at the center. I really was drawn to the vultures because of their unique head shape and the way they walk. Figuring out the form of the snake that was shown to use was a nice experience as well.

3/28_Class Session (Wolf Dog)

Sketch Count: 100

This week we drew from canine references, mostly wolf images, and later had a session with an actual wolf dog! Figuring out the bone structure of the legs was very difficult to get a grasp on. Especially the hind legs, which when the wolf dog, Lucian, would walk or jump were difficult to capture.
