1/24_Class Session (+ Chiller)

Sketch Count: 98

This week I got to sketch skaters practicing at the Chiller! There were some movements and poses that took a lot of observation to get down pat, which took quite some time to get the hang of. But once I watched for a while I got more of a grasp on how they had to move when on the ice. Some of the times they crossed their legs for spinning moves were tough to remember however.

1/17_Draw Your Favorite Thing Homework

For my first homework assignment in Cafe Sketch I chose to draw from the Hobbit! But specifically from the behind the scenes production videos on the extended edition DVD. It had some wonderful 'dwarf boot camp' workouts that allowed for some fantastic poses.

Sketch Count: 50/50

It was a challenge to figure out where legs or arms were at times when actors were curled into themselves. Especially Andy Serkis in his motion capture suit as Gollum. When all black clothing is worn figuring out what is happening in a pose can prove difficult.

Sketch Count: 149

Thus begins posting sketches for my Cafe Sketch course! It was very difficult and odd to get back into the rhythm of sketching with a time limit. But as the class went on figuring out simple shapes to describe the pose came a lot easier. Though sometimes it was difficult to read some of the poses when the person was all in black.
